The ABA Rare Bird Alert’s Weekly Highlights

The First State Record of a Connecticut Warbler was documented along the Rio Grande near Percha Dam in New Mexico.

Two First State Records were documented by birders last week, a Connecticut Warbler in New Mexico and an Elegant Tern in North Carolina. Birders also established 2 Second State Records, a Tropical Parula in New Mexico and a Townsend’s Warbler in Michigan; plus a Third State Record Canada Warbler in Washington and a Third Provincial Record Manx Shearwater in Ontario. The sighting of a large flock of hundreds of Short-tailed Shearwaters established a Fourth Territorial Record in Nunavut, and there are more exciting reports.

American Flamingos continue to hold birders’ attention, and although flamingos were originally reported in 10 states, during the past week flamingos have been reported in Florida, Pennsylvania, Indiana, Kentucky, North Carolina, and Alabama.
