The new Ohio Lake Erie Birding Trail Guidebook, inside and out.
![]() |
The new guide to one of the best birding regions in the Midwest, the new Ohio Lake Erie Birding Trail Guidebook describes the Ohio Lake Erie Birding Trail, featuring 90 of the region’s most interesting and popular birding sites along the northern Ohio shoreline and adjacent areas. The 120-page book is organized and mapped as 7 habitat-related loops to enable more geographic, habitat, or species-focused trip planning. Each of these loops can be followed as presented or sub-divided according to the amount of time you have available.
Most important for enthusiastic birders, a master checklist of bird species that can be found at the loop sites is included at the end of the book. There is also a removable folded map that is included in a handy pocket inside the front cover of the book, which is ring-bound for improved ease-of-use in the field.
Each loop is described with a general explanation of the area it covers, the most common nird species observed at the loop sites, including noteworthy rarities, and particularly notable “hot spots.” Thereafter, sites within each loop are described individually, with directions to each one included, along with GPS coordinates, amenities, public access times, an overview of the site, likely visible species, rare birds that may be seen there, a citation of the site’s sponsor in the guidebook, an impressive photo of a bird relevant to the site – and QR codes that lead the reader to additional information that is available online.
The basis for the above description of the new Ohio Lake Erie Birding Trail Guidebook was provided by John E.
