As a tribute to New Yorkers during this especially trying period, know that we all stand with you and your interests, and here we share and highlight the wonderful street art of North American birds painted on buildings as part of the Audubon Mural Project throughout John James Audubon’s Harlem-based neighborhood in New York City. To date, 117 remarkable murals have been painted – a huge accomplishment, and a wonderful addition to this area of New York City.
The Audubon Mural Project is a collaboration between the National Audubon Society and the Gitler Gallery to create murals of North American birds, commissioning artists to bring added attention to bird populations being affected by climate change. To date, 117 colorful murals have been painted, showing a range of impressive artwork, and a total of 314 murals planned as the project progresses.
During healthier times, it was possible to download a map of the murals and walk from mural to mural, but we’ll need to wait for the “all clear” notice to resume our social activities, including mural walks in New York City. For now, you can enjoy the creativity, variety, and colors of the murals completed as part of the Audubon Mural Project at https://www.audubon.org/amp (scroll down to click on individual murals for a larger view and interesting information about the featured birds and artists).
Please be safe, stay healthy, and appreciate how we all support the valiant efforts of all the citizens of New York, along with people of every state across the country as we regain our collective health, along with all the people of the world.
