The ABA Rare Bird Alert’s Highlights

A First State Record Grace’s Warbler was documented near Casper, Wyoming by excited birders last week (photo by Zachariah Hutchinson).

Two North American Records were established last week in Alaska by birders on St. Paul Island, in the Pribilof Isles in the Bering Sea – a Fourth North American Record Lesser White-fronted Goose and a Fifth North American Record Song Thrush were among a list of Asian bird species being encountered now on St Paul Island. On the mainland, 5 new First State or Provincial Records were documented, including a Grace’s Warbler and Yellow-bellied Flycatcher in Wyoming, an Arctic Tern in Missouri, and a Pine Warbler and House Finch in Labrador (the first to expand that far northeast) – and there’s more:

First Provincial Record Pine Warbler – Forteau, Labrador

First State Record Yellow-bellied Flycatcher – Jay Em, Wyoming

First Provincial Record House Finch – Codrey, Labrador

Third Provincial Record Blue Grosbeak – Peachland, British Columbia

Seventh State Record Neotropic Cormorant – Lexington, Kentucky

Nineth State Record Franklin’s Gull – Misquamicut Beach, Rhode Island

Laughing Gull – Clatsop, Oregon

Franklin’s Gulls – near Salisbury, Vermont

Cape May Warbler – Bears Ears Monument, Utah

Rose-throated Becard – Big Bend, Texas

Mottled Owl – Texas

Yellow-headed Caracaras – Florida, Texas

Berylline Hummingbird – Arizona

Cattle Tyrant – Texas

Brown Jays – Texas

Flame-colored Tanager – Arizona
