Camp Surfbird is a new unique overnight birding camp designed specifically for young birders aged 13 to 17 to enjoy February 23rd and 24th during the San Diego Bird Festival. Working together, San Diego Audubon and the American Birding Association (ABA) have planned an unforgettable weekend for young birders to gather and explore the region with like-minded peers. Campers will be participating in chaperoned festival activities and experiences designed just for them. Base camp is located at YMCA Camp Surf in Imperial Beach.
During the Camp Surf birding weekend, campers will practice and expand their birding skills, learn about the natural history of coastal California, meet other young people with similar interests in birds, and explore careers and opportunities in ornithology, research, and conservation while networking with leaders in the field.
Participants will receive lodging at Camp Surf for 2 nights, daily transportation to and from Marina Village for San Diego Bird Festival activities, meals (breakfast, lunch, and dinner), 2 full-day festival field trips (4 to choose from), optional participation in keynote presentations, and beach activities during the evening of February 24th.
