A male Vermillion Flycatcher was observed and photographed adjacent to Longmire Lake in south-central Oklahoma.

A Common Crane was sighted in northeast California – representing a Third State Record. It’s interesting to note that the same week the only known Common Crane in North America this year left its long-time location in northern Arizona. (Same bird?) Again, just north of the Rio Grande in Texas, a Green-breasted Mango was photographed at a backyard hummingbird feeder, but it was only present one day. Three Little Stints were observed last week, one in California, one in Oregon, and one in Rhode Island; and there’s more.

CONTINUING RARE BIRDS
A Plain-capped Starthroat is still visiting a feeder in Arizona, in south Florida the Black-faced Grassquit is still being observed in Everglades National Park, and the Little Egret continues to be documented near Portland, Maine. August should yield even more exciting rare bird sightings – maybe even one you find!
