The Pentax PF-85 ED Spotting Scope

The New Pentax PF-85 ED Spotting Scope.

The newest addition to the Pentax optics line, the Pentax PF-85 ED Spotting Scope is a large-aperture, high-performance spotting scope made especially with birders in mind. Its newly designed optics feature the large-aperture 85mm objective lens that delivers a bright, clear, high-contrast field of view for high-quality observations of the birds you seek. The ED (Extra-low Dispersion) glass optical elements effectively minimize chromatic aberrations, and this Pentax Spotting Scope excels with the latest multi-layer coating process – all in a compact, portable, waterproof body.

The Eyepiece Kit provided with this Pentax Spotting Scope body is a 20x-to-60x zoom lens, which provides impressive views of birds in the field of view that varies from 55 feet at 1,000 yards using the 20x magnification, and ranges to 51 feet at 1,000 at 60x magnification. However, you have the option of using a range of eyepieces with the eyepiece mount’s standard 1.25 inch (31.7mm) sleeve, including any of the 6 other XF eyepieces specifically designed for Pentax Spotting Scopes.

To ensure a clear field of view, even in challenging weather conditions, this Pentax PF-85 Spotting Scope is filled with nitrogen gas to prevent fogging caused by sudden temperature changes. It is also waterproof for dependable use in rain or mist, and there is a dust-proof glass element in the eyepiece mount. The built-in lens hood helps to shield the 85mm objective lens surface from water and dust, and it can be used to shield your view from excessive side light.

The Pentax PF-85 ED was designed to maximize comfort and ease of use in a variety of field conditions. The roof prism optical design enables this Pentax Spotting Scope to be compact and highly portable, making it comfortable for birders to carry and use in a variety of landscapes. Its eyepiece section is slanted upward at a 45-degree angle to enable birders to easily adjust eye level viewing and observe birds while standing or sitting in a natural, relaxed posture. In addition, the tripod connection has a click-stop rotation mechanism to help you easily twist the lens barrel to position the eyepiece at the most comfortable angle while viewing.
