The Indiana Young Birders Club and the Indiana Audubon Society is hosting the 5th Indiana Young Birders Conference on August 19 at the Cool Creek Nature Center, located in Carmel, Ind.
The Indiana Young Birders Conference is an all-day event that is almost entirely planned and hosted by young birders and naturalists from Indiana and surrounding states. Some highlights of the conference include programs on birdwatching in the tropics, protecting native habitat for birds, smart phone nature photography, venus flytrap feeding, and reptiles of central Indiana.
The featured keynote speaker will be Henry Griffin, a 17-year-old young birder from Chicago, who has a life list in excess of 930 species and who has pioneered his own charity organization "Oak Park Bird Walks" in the near-west suburb of Chicago. Henry has traveled to over fifteen countries to see birds. Since then, his locally-famous "Oak Park Bird Walk" series has been featured in multiple sources, including a front-page article of the Chicago Tribune in April 2015.
Registration fees are $20 for adults 19 and up, $10 for Young Birders/Naturalists between 12-18, and free for Fledglings under 12. Registration for the day includes lunch catered by Moe's Southwest Grill. Registration is online at www.indianayoungbirders.org.
