April Birding Festivals

A symbol of the many birds you can see during the variety of events held during the Georgia Birding Fest, this Brown Thrasher was photographed by Peter Waksmundzki.

During the vibrant spring days of April, the number of birding festivals being held across North America increases exponentially. It all starts in northwest Canada, with the Yukon’s Festival of Swans that features 20 events over the entire duration of April. And it continues with 35 more Birding Festivals in almost as many states and provinces, ending as April turns to May during the New River Birding & Nature Festival in Lansing, West Virginia. Birders get more and more excited as spring progresses and attending a birding event, near or far from home, provides an unmeasurable boost of enthusiasm for the rest of the year.

Birding Festivals provide anyone with an interest in birds a wealth of information and experiences that range from field trips to workshops and a variety of social events for you to interact with other people interested in birds. It’s a remarkable way to grow into a better birder, and to enjoy the birds of spring all the more.
