Southern Indiana's Monroe Lake, in conjunction with the Fourwinds Lakeside Inn, will host Eagles over Monroe at Fairfax State Recreation Area on Jan. 27-29.
Program details, registration, and lodging information are available on the event website at http://visitbloomington.com/eaglesovermonroe.
The event kicks off on Friday evening with lantern-lit owl prowls, tips and tricks for better bird photography, and the Monroe Lake eagle update.
Saturday morning programs are about raptor bones, eagle tracking tools used by researchers, and birding apps. At Lunch with the Eagles, you can enjoy a unique lunch buffet and live bird presentation, including both a bald and golden eagle, from the Indiana Raptor Center.
A self-guided driving tour around the lake on Saturday afternoon offers attendees a chance to see eagles and other birds in the wild; stops will be manned by local birders and their spotting scopes. There will also be a program on eagles around the world as well as kids' activities during the afternoon hours.
The keynote on Saturday evening is "Eagles in a Modern World," presented by Dr. Brian Washburn, an eagle researcher with the National Wildlife Research Center. Dr. Washburn will discuss how eagles are changing to adapt to human activity.
Saturday evening concludes with the screening of a bald eagle documentary. Sunday morning activities are a morning bird hike and a hike to the eagle hacking tower, where bald eagles were reintroduced to Indiana in the late 1980s and early 90s.
Advance registration is $10 per person and includes all programs and activities, except for Lunch with the Eagles. Lunch with the Eagles on Saturday requires a separate ticket, $20 for ages 11+ or $15 for kids under 10, and a portion of the ticket price supports raptor rehabilitation at the Indiana Raptor Center.
Walk-up registration will also be available at the Fourwinds Lakeside Inn from 4 to 8 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 27 and 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 28. Walk-up costs are $15 for event registration, and $22/$16 for Lunch with the Eagles tickets.
The Fourwinds Lakeside Inn is offering a special rate of $79 per night for a lakeside room to event attendees. Dining specials will also be available throughout the weekend.
