Registration for 2017 American Birding Association Camps for birders aged 13 to 18 is now open – and all three camps have sold out quickly in recent years.
The 2017 summer's camp lineup is:
CAMP COLORADO I JULY 16 - 22 (22 campers)
CAMP COLORADO II JULY 25 - 31 (22 campers)
CAMP AVOCET JULY 30 - AUGUST 5 (24 campers)
We have sold out all of our camps for the past six years and we believe this year will be no different! Our camps are first come-first served in guaranteeing a reservation. If you have a verbal or email 'temporary held spot' for one of the camps, you must secure the spot by going online to register. Online ABA Camp registration for all participants can be found at http://events.aba.org/aba-young-birder-camps/
Now in its fifth year, Camp Avocet is based at the University of Delaware's stunning Virden Retreat Center in historic Lewes, Delaware, only minutes away from two major National Wildlife Refuges and a short ride to six, ecologically-based birding regions.
Are you looking for shorebirds? Well, Camp Avocet will be stacked full of migrants such as dowitchers, Black-necked Stilt, Semipalmated, Western and Least Sandpipers, and of course American Avocets numbering in the hundreds.
Delaware boasts an outstanding fall migration of shorebirds with easy access and fabulous viewing opportunities.
Of course at this hotspot there's always a chance of rarity! Due to the grand diversity of southern Delaware's bird-rich habitats, over 150 species of birds are often seen and studied during this seven-day camp extravaganza. Campers will be housed and fed in the modern Virden Retreat Center only moments away from the Atlantic Ocean and the Delaware Bay. The Piping Plovers, Black Skimmers, American Oystercatchers and Royal Terns accentuate the breath-taking sunset off of Cape Henlopen Point, surely providing memories that shall last a lifetime.
Fabulous field trips led by ABA Staff and guest instructors will be punctuated by terrific educational workshops, making Camp Avocet 2017 a truly exceptional experience!
Camp Fee: $1295.00 – includes all lodging, meals, transportation during camp events, instructional sessions and shuttle to and from Philadelphia International Airport.
ABA Camps are open to all birders aged 13 to 18.
Scholarships available: The American Birding Association, through the generous support of our sponsors, provides limited scholarships to help young people who are interested in birds to attend our summer camps. To apply, please visit – Young Birder Scholarships
