Barr Lake, Colo. Hosts Bald Eagle Festival Feb. 6

BRIGHTON, Colo. – Bring your family and friends to enjoy Barr Lake State Park's fourth annual Bald Eagle Festival on February 6 and celebrate the 30th year of bald eagles at the refuge!

As of 2015, Barr Lake bald eagles have fledged 52 young and February is an excellent month for bald eagle viewing including our nesting pair and many other winter eagles. In January, eagles begin courtship behavior including tumbling in mid-air, nest building and staying close together. In mid-February, and often coinciding with Valentine's Day, bald eagles lay one to three eggs. The adults take turns incubating the eggs, so visitors are practically guaranteed to see an eagle on the nest. If all goes well, eaglets hatch late March.

Celebrate this unique time at Barr Lake by attending the Bald Eagle Festival Saturday, February 6 starting at 10 a.m. at the Nature Center. Enjoy a live bald eagle presentation at noon by Natures Educator's, eagle hikes at 10 a.m., Eagle Express tours at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. and crafts for the kids. For more information and to make reservations, please call the Nature Center 303-659-6005. All programs are free, just a park pass to enter is required ($7/daily or $70 annual).
