Montana Audubon Seeks Conservation Director

The Director of Conservation must have a strong science background. This individual must also be a strategic thinker, excellent communicator, successful fundraiser, and collaborative leader who works effectively with public and private partners. This individual will oversee priority conservation programs, develop and implement Montana's Important Bird Area Program, establish and oversee citizen science efforts, work collaboratively with partners to advance habitat conservation, and integrate science into our public policy program. This position is full-time, permanent and exempt.

Supervisory Responsibilities
The Director of Conservation is responsible for the supervision of the Associate Director of Conservation, and may supervise other part- or full-time assistants, consultants, volunteers and interns. This staff person is supervised by the Executive Director, and works closely with the Senior Director of Public Policy.

Qualifications
The Director of Conservation position requires education and experience equivalent to a M.S. in Avian Ecology, Wildlife Biology, Conservation Biology or related field, and at least 5 years of experience in wildlife or avian conservation, natural resource management or related field, and at least 3 years management experience, specifically leading professional teams and programs. Critical qualifications include: extensive knowledge of birds, their natural history, habitats, and conservation; proven fundraising success; experience supporting citizen science; excellent written and oral communication skills; and the ability to work effectively in a team environment, forming productive partnerships with a variety of people and organizations.
