The Steering Committee for Wisconsin Breeding Bird Atlas 2 (WBBA2) is establishing a Communications Committee to manage aspects of a project that will span the next seven years. WBBA2 will be the successor to the atlas initiated in 1995 and will provide a permanent record of all the birds breeding here in the second decade of the 21st Century. We are looking to recruit a volunteer to serve as committee chair as well as several volunteer committee members.
The communications chair's responsibilities would include:
Serving on the WBBA2 Steering Committee
Helping to establish an overall communications strategy aimed primarily at the state's birding community
Overseeing the content of WWBA2 section of the Wisconsin Society for Ornithology website, in collaboration with WSO's web administrator.
Managing the development and distribution of any printed material such as newsletters and brochures for use internal to the project
Coordinating WBBA2 use of social media
Developing a media contact list and appropriate news releases for both birding publications and the general media
Ideally, candidates for this position will display:
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Familiarity with social media
A commitment to avian conservation
An ability to work collaboratively with a diverse group of people, most of them volunteers
A self-starter ethic, creativity and strong problem-solving skills
Previous experience managing communications for an organization is a plus, but is not required.
If interested, please contact the Steering Committee chair, Nick Anich (nicholas.anich@wisconsin.gov), by September 12. Please provide 1 paragraph that explains why you are interested in joining the atlas steering committee and details your skills and prior applicable experiences. Also please note whether you are willing to possibly serve as chair, or would prefer to just be a committee member.
