'The Story of Jay N. 'Ding' Darling' Receives Wildlife Society's Media Award

MILWAUKEE, WISCONSIN -October 21, 2013-In celebrating Jay N. "Ding" Darling's birthday, we at Marvo are sharing a special announcement: "America's Darling: The Story of Jay N. 'Ding' Darling," was awarded the Wildlife Society's Conservation Education Media Award at the Society's 76th Annual Awards Dinner and Ceremony on October 6 in Milwaukee.

Marvo's one-hour multimedia television project, "America's Darling," is the true story of Jay Norwood "Ding" Darling (1876-1962), a national cartoonist who changed America by influencing her presidents, shaping her landscapes and winning the hearts of her people.

According to the Wildlife Society, the Conservation Education Award honors "outstanding accomplishments in the dissemination of conservation knowledge to the public in the categories of writing, media, programs, and audio-visual works." Darling was the Society's first Honorary Member and was the recipient of its Aldo Leopold Medal in 1950.

The awards evening was made even more significant as Marvo Executive Producer Samuel Koltinsky shared a special gift. On behalf of Kip and Andrea Koss, Koltinsky presented members of the Wildlife Society with the very certificate of honor Darling received when he was awarded the Aldo Leopold Medal back in 1950.

Koltinsky is grateful to everyone who helped make the project so successful. "I have accepted this award for all of us," he said, "including our wonderful underwriters, production team, interviewees and the many others who have provided research, artifacts, and images, in addition to those who have hosted screenings around the country."

Marvo is also excited to announce another city that has proclaimed October 21st as "Ding" Darling Day. Beloit, Wisconsin, home of Darling's alma mater, Beloit College, announced October 7, 2013, that it would declare October 21, 2013 as "Ding" Darling Day in honor of his numerous achievements and lasting legacy in Beloit and across the country. Special appreciation is extended to Chuck Benedict and the Beloit City Council. Communities interested in establishing the "Ding" Darling Day may contact Koltinsky for details.

Marvo Executive Producer Samuel Koltinsky's work is inspired by a passion for stories, history, preservation, and the environment.
