How to Draw Birds Instruction Videos

Learn to draw a variety of birds using three free videos hosted by bird artist John Muir Laws on YouTube, sponsored by Audubon California.

Audubon California is providing three free video workshops that provide instructions about how to draw backyard birds, waterfowl, shorebirds, raptors, and owls. Each video workshop is about two hours long and provides a wealth of instruction and examples. Hosted by naturalist, artist, and educator John Muir Laws, the videos provide fundamentals of drawing birds, ranging from seeing a bird and creating it on paper, to sharing the point that drawing birds is not about talent, it’s about spending time drawing – adding that you will be surprised at how quickly you will improve and be able to draw all kinds of birds with a special flair.

The three videos are titled Garden Birds, Water Birds (waterfowl and shorebirds), and Raptors (hawks, eagles, and owls), and are provided online on YouTube, so you can access any of the videos any time, free of charge, and re-access them any time you wish. Anyone will benefit from these videos, whether you wish to improve your field notes, hope to enter the realm of bird art, or are simply interested in watching the process. Actually, any birder can become a better birder by using some of the techniques used to study the shapes and plumage of birds being illustrated.
