BirdCast Gets an Initial Broadcast Treatment

We all pay attention to weather reports and forecasts, sometimes daily. Now there is a seasonal excitement about bird migration generated by BirdCast, in which weather radar is used to monitor the volumes of birds migrating during spring and fall migration seasons across the continental United States. Will birders soon be watching television broadcasts or YouTube presentations of migration forecasts similar to weather forecasts? The first such broadcast has already been created as a precursor to what may soon be one of our newest resources!

BirdCast team members that are also meteorology students at Cornell University are helping to take some fantastic first steps at producing bird migration forecasts, the first of which describes the record-breaking spring migration flight that took place a few months ago, on May 4, 2026, along with the 2 following night's forecasts. It's a super first step in what will likely follow soon, and while we will surely keep you posted on the possibility of regular future BirdCast broadcasts you can review the First BirdCast Migration Forecast at A migration forecast gets the broadcast treatment! – BirdCast

Until these kinds of bird migration broadcasts are made regularly, you can still get the daily information used to make the first presentation at BirdCast's 4 websites that provide 24-hour access to a wealth of bird migration information that serves the Lower 48 States, including:

Saturday's August 15th Live Maps and Migration Dashboard describe an impressive first spike in bird migration in portions of the United States, which we encourage you to check on at Live Maps – BirdCast (simply change the date in the lower right corner of the map to 8/15 and click the arrow in the lower left side of the map to start the action). And while you are there, check the most recent Live Map and maybe even the Migration Forecast for the following 3 nights at Forecast Maps – BirdCast.
