Birding Wire

America 250 – Happy 4th of July!

At this mid-point in 2026, we hope you enjoy a Wonderful Holiday Weekend as fireworks and celebrations mark the 250 years of American Freedom, growing from 13 states to 50 states and more than 342 million Americans! We hope your summer is off to a great start and that birds and birding are part of your daily joy. On Canada Day, July 1st our staff begins our summer holiday week and we look forward to bringing you a new issue of The Birding Wire the morning of Wednesday July 15th, when new weekly issues resume filled with information about birds and birding from across the United States, Canada, and beyond.

The majesty of a Bald Eagle in flight is emblematic of America’s 250th Independence Day, just as the many photos of Common Loons in this issue are for Canada Day.

As always, you will receive a collection of insightful stories from the field and backyard, how-to information, birding news and events, product descriptions, the rarest bird sightings, and some inspiration for you to get the most out of all your favorite birding activities. Throughout July, and anytime, please consider sharing The Birding Wire with others who would enjoy the information and illustrations we share with you and our tens of thousands of readers each week. It's Free, just click on the word "Subscribe" at the top of any issue, or on the homepage of our website at Birding Wire. We only ask for the person's name, email, and zip code, and that information is never shared or used aside from sending our e-magazine via an e-mail each week – you know how easy it is and how well the process works.

In the meantime, Thank You for being a valued reader, and for your interest and encouragement throughout the year, and year after year! We hope you enjoy all your birding activities in the field and in your yard, and watch for the next issue of The Birding Wire to appear in your email Inbox the morning of July 15th! Happy 4th of July! and Bonne Fête du Canada!
