A new 3-part series to help us learn bird songs, appreciate bird migration in our yard, and support nesting birds will begin tomorrow, with monthly installments following on May 14th and June 18th. Presented by the Cornell Lab of Ornithology, we all recognize that an important part of spring is to acquaint or reacquaint ourselves with bird songs we haven't heard for many months, and the Cornell staff will give you a boost of help with identifying the songs you hear – even without seeing the birds doing the singing.
Available live tomorrow, April 9th at 1pm EDT (10am PDT), the Cornell staff will preview some relatively familiar bird songs, help you learn how to recognize them, and learn more about the singers, species by species. There will even be plenty of time for a Q&A session for you to participate in during the live presentation. When you RSVP using the form on this page: Register for Welcome Back Birds! Live Event Series, you will receive invitations to 3 live backyard-oriented events. After each event you will receive a recording of the live event that you can watch anytime in case you cannot participate in the live presentation, along with supplementary resources that will help you embrace and enjoy this spring season more than ever.
In addition, the other 2 presentations will a provide similar live presentation, but with seasonal emphasis on Bird Migration in your yard in May, and Supporting Birds in your yard in June – all part of the 3-part series that are included in your registration:
Bird Migration in Your Backyard – May 14: Bird migration isn't just a continental phenomenon, it's also very local, and it is happening in your yard and all around you this spring, and now's the time to enjoy the spectacle! Some of the new birds are just passing through during migration stops, while others will be in your yard and neighborhood throughout the summer. On Thursday May 14th you will check in with experts at the Cornell Lab during the live presentation to learn about the basics of bird migration, what newly arriving birds are doing, and share some can't-miss migration spectacles likely happening in your neighborhood. Bring your questions and be sure to share what you are looking forward to seeing this spring during the Q&A.
How to Support Birds in Your Yard – June 18: The summer is especially busy for nesting birds, and it doesn't take long for birds to switch over from migrating to courting and nesting. During June, you will begin to see new fledglings fresh out of the nest, and the Cornell Lab staff will share information about some of their favorite summertime birding, like enjoying the dawn chorus. Also on Thursday June 18th, staff will describe a number of cool birds for you to look for and listen for this summer. They will also share some tips about how you can increase the diversity of birds visiting your yard and how to keep them safer during the nesting and fledging periods. Sounds great! Now all you need to do to get started is register for this informative and enjoyable 3-part series at Register for Welcome Back Birds! Live Event Series
