The ABA Rare Bird Alert’s Weekly Highlights

While kayaking the Buffalo River in Tennessee, an Alabama birder photographed a young Snail Kite, which turned out to be a First State Record for Tennessee!

The most recent rare birds recorded include 2 First State Records, a young Snail Kite in Tennessee and a Black-tailed Gull in Michigan. An exciting Far Eastern Curlew was the newest Asian bird sighting on St. Paul Island in the Bering Sea of western Alaska! And an Eastern Wood Peewee in southern California and a Bronzed Cowbird in Oklahoma round out the new rare bird sightings for June. Among the Continuing Rare Birds, the big news is that a Large-billed Tern re-appeared in Florida Saturday morning, and we’re also tracking continuing rare birds like the Steller’s Sea Eagle in southeast Newfoundland, and the Mottled Owl along the Rio Grande in Texas.
