Just In Case You Didn’t See Enough Loon Photos

Saturday, while editing bird photos for this issue on my camera’s photo card, I stumbled into the midst of the many photos I took of Common Loons on July 20th in central Minnesota. Although we shared a variety of photos of the loons in last week’s Bird Photography feature, I found one, then another, and another in quick succession that led me to edit (crop) the original photos for future use. And then I thought “why not share these new images with you and other readers too,” so here are 3 more images – 3 that I’m surprised didn’t grab my attention when I did my first review of the Common Loon images I took with my friends Andy and Linda on Little Pelican Lake.

A family portrait of the adult pair with their downy 3-week-old hatchling (photo tech: 330mm zoom lens, f-8 aperture, 1/800 shutter speed, ISO 400).

A tranquil shared moment between loons, and the birders (330mm zoom lens, f-10 aperture, 1/500 shutter speed, ISO 400).

A classic Common Loon flap. For more descriptive information and the full story about photographing the Common Loons in central Minnesota, please refer to the Bird Photography feature in last week’s issue (600mm zoom lens, f-10 aperture, 1/400 shutter speed, ISO 400).
