The Hawk Migration Association of North America celebrated its second annual International Hawk Migration Week (IHMW) September 19-27, 2015 by tallying over 1.3 million migrating hawks, eagles and vultures at over 100 sites throughout Canada, the United States and Mexico.

Since the spring of 2009, The Center for Conservation Biology and The Nature Conservancy have teamed up to run a "leaving count" of whimbrels around the third week of May. In 2014, the count covered eight days between the 20th and 27th of May and documented 132 flocks totaling 8,249 whimbrels, a new record high for the site.

The 2012 season marked a number of milestones for the recovery of the federally endangered Red-cockaded Woodpecker in Virginia, as biologists from the Center for Conservation Biology documented modern-day highs at the Nature Conservancy's Piney Grove Preserve for the number of breeding pairs, the number of young fledged and a record-high population count.
