Montana Audubon Seeks Raptor Migration Observers

MONTANA RAPTOR MIGRATION OBSERVERS. Two (2) observers will be hired to conduct the 25th consecutive, season-long count for the Bridger Mountain Raptor Migration Monitoring Project, near Bozeman, MT. Observations will be conducted from September 1 through November 5, 2015. The successful candidate shall receive $1200-1500/month (plus free housing), depending on experience.

Applicants must have excellent eyesight, be in good physical condition (for daily hiking of 2.5 miles each way to observation point, a 2200-ft. elevation gain), be willing to endure long hours in the field with variable weather (esp. cold temperatures and strong winds later in the season), be able to work cooperatively as a team member with other experienced observers, and most importantly, have demonstrated excellent raptor-in-flight identification skills.

Observers will work in teams of two to conduct daily, standardized (8 hours/day) counts of the migrating raptors. Weather permitting, observers will generally work 6 days per week (with additional observer support provided by qualified, local volunteers). Camping onsite is optional (local housing will be sought in the vicinity of the project). The successful candidate must provide his/her own high-quality binoculars.

Send cover letter, resume, 3 references with phone number and email address (at least one must be willing to vouch for applicant's in-flight raptor ID skills), and dates of availability promptly to: shoffman@mtaudubon.org. Candidate qualifications will be reviewed upon receipt; please visit http://mtaudubon.org/birds/raptor.html for more information. Positions open until filled.
