The following position is available in the Communications Program at the Lab of Ornithology. The Lab of Ornithology is currently seeking an Associate Editor. Duties include:

Serve on the masthead of the Cornell Lab's Living Bird, an award-winning magazine with a circulation above 55,000 that is one of the world's top outlets for science journalism related to birds.
Play a role in editorial content development for the AllAboutBirds website, where Living Bird and other Cornell Lab content is published online and available for more than 16 million web readers annually from around the world, and the development of editorial content for other Cornell Lab communications channels and projects.
Provide copyediting and production management for editorial content (both text and visuals) in a variety of styles for print, web, and multimedia productions.
Serve as a member and collaborator on an 8-person editorial team at the Cornell Lab that works together to publish timely, relevant and engaging content about birds and biodiversity for the organization's membership and for the general public.
Work under the direction of the Editorial Director, both independently on editorial duties and collaboratively with team members and outside experts, to move content forward through the various stages of production to final publication.
Required Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree with some knowledge of birds.
1-2 years of experience or equivalent.
Minimum of three years of experience in editing and writing articles for the general public.
Must be able to write and edit accurate, engaging, and accessible articles.
Ability to multitask, meet deadlines, and work in a team environment is essential.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
Demonstrates ability to express thoughts clearly, both orally and in writing.
Proven ability to work in a team environment where cooperation between colleagues and flexibility to different styles and approaches is required.
Must be able to satisfy one's external and internal customers and balance conflicting priorities.
Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in journalism and publishing articles for the general public on the web is helpful, as is experience in multimedia presentation and production, and website content management.
Understanding of new communication technologies and their application to journalism is useful.
Experience with content management systems desirable.
