A Black-throated Gray Warbler was observed in New Jersey, and another in Minnesota.

With such exiting birds as a Ringed Kingfisher in Arizona, a Bahama Mockingbird in Florida, an Anna’s Hummingbird in Nebraska, Black-throated Gray Warblers in Minnesota and New Jersey, a Cinnamon Teal in Ohio, and a Swainson’s Hawk in Quebec last week, who can resist checking out the full list of rare or off-course species birders from across the continent reported last week?
First state record Ringed Kingfisher – Roper Lake State Park, Arizona
First provincial record Gray Flycatcher – Wilmot, New Brunswick
Second state record Common Ringed Plover – northwest California (Eurasian species)
Second state record Anna’s Hummingbird – near Fremont, Nebraska
Third state record Tropical Kingbird – south Denver, Colorado
Seventh state record Hooded Warbler – St. George, Utah
Really rare sightings:
Bahama Mockingbird – Palm Beach area, Florida
Tropical Kingbird – Juneau, Alaska
Cinnamon Teal – central Ohio
White-rumped Sandpiper – northwest California
Black-throated Gray Warbler – New Jersey
Exciting rare sightings:
Black-throated Gray Warbler – southwest Minnesota
Swainson’s Hawk – Lanaudiere, Quebec
Lawrence’s Goldfinches (small flock) – Silver City, New Mexico
Lesser Goldfinch – Cranbrook, British Columbia
Western Meadowlark – Gaspesie, Quebec
It’s also exciting to report that boobies were the theme on a pelagic trip October 7 that documented five species of boobies out of Ventura, California, including Masked, Red-footed, Brown, Blue-footed and Nazca Boobies! Plus the Blue-footed Booby at Lake Powell in Utah (the first state record) was still being seen.
