Raptor Day at Michigan's Walker Tavern's Historic Site

A 'birds of prey' program will be featured Sunday, Aug. 24, during the weekly farmers market at Walker Tavern Historic Site near Brooklyn, Michigan. The free program begins at 1 p.m.

"This will be a rare opportunity for the public to see some of these great hawks up close," said Walker Tavern site historian Laurie Perkins.

"The conservation and recovery group sponsoring the event helped to rescue a hawk at the historic site last summer, and ever since, everyone has wanted to learn about hawks," Perkins said. "Because of the nature of the program, the hawks will be on display only for a limited amount of time, so if you are planning to come to this event, be sure to arrive early and enjoy the farmers market before the program begins."

A Recreation Passport is now required to enter Cambridge Junction Historic State Park, the home of Walker Tavern. The passport is an easy, affordable way for residents to enjoy and support outdoor recreation opportunities in Michigan. By clicking "YES" for the $11 Recreation Passport ($5 for motorcycles) when renewing license plates through the Secretary of State (by mail, kiosk, online at www.expresssos.com or at branch offices), Michigan motorists get access to state parks, recreation areas, state forest campgrounds, non-motorized state trailhead parking and state boat launches. The passport is valid until the next license plate renewal date.

Nonresidents can purchase the Recreation Passport ($31 annual; $9 daily) at any state park or recreation area or (annual pass only) through the Michigan e-Store at www.michigan.gov/estore.

For more information on the Recreation Passport, go to www.michigan.gov/recreationpassport.
