San Diego Audubon Development and Communications Manager

Development: Write and administer grants, manage appeals, coordinate events, and work with the Executive Director (ED) to enhance major gifts and planned giving programs.
Information Management: Manage constituent database and related correspondence and design database reports for analysis and reporting.
Communications: Manage website content, produce e-newsletter, and manage social media presences.

DEVELOPMENT (50%)
Research grant opportunities.
Manage grant tracking system and administer grants.
Prepare grant applications, including writing grant proposals and developing budgets.
Work with the ED to develop and implement major gifts and planned giving programs.
Plan and carry out membership and appeal campaigns.
Manage all development-related events, including planning, budgeting, venue selection and coordination, communications, and registration.
Manage and oversee all incoming monies.
INFORMATION MANAGEMENT (30%)
Manage the constituent database, including managing data entry by volunteers, development of operational guidelines, and ongoing support for staff/ trained volunteers.
Manage donation acknowledgements and other special mailing projects.
Establish and maintain queries and reports to generate mailing lists, appeals, membership campaigns, and other targeted communications as needed.
Prepare fundraising reports for the ED and Fund Development Committee as requested.

COMMUNICATIONS (20%)
Act as Managing Editor of the SDAS print newsletter, Sketches.
Manage content for the SDAS website to ensure the site provides up-to-date information and supports our programmatic and fundraising goals.
Produce e-newsletter, including coordinating with staff and board committees to develop content.
Maintain and develop content for social media presences on Facebook and Twitter.
Develop strategies for increasing subscriptions to email list.

DESIRED SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS
Deep commitment and passion for the conservation of birds, other wildlife, and their habitats.
At least two years of professional experience in the development field.
Grant writing and management experience.
Excellent written communication skills.
Advanced database skills, including query/report design (experience with eTapestry a plus).
Advanced website content management skills (experience with Joomla a plus).
Very organized and able to set priorities and handle multiple tasks.
Hard working, self-motivated, able to work in a team setting.
Advanced proficiency with PC-based software, including Microsoft Office suite.
Typewriting speed minimum 50 WPM.

OTHER JOB REQUIREMENTS
Must have a valid driver's license, excellent driving record, and reliable transportation.
Must be able to work an average of two Saturdays per month (outreach and/or habitat project volunteer support) and some evening events.
Must be able to lift 50 pounds.

SALARY, BENEFITS & TERMS
This is a full-time, exempt position. The salary range is $35,000 to $38,000 per year, depending upon experience. Benefits include paid health insurance, vacation, and sick leave. Target start date is July 1, 2014 or until filled.
